CELEBRATE THE 50th ANNIVERSARY OF THE ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 1, 2010 AT 12:00 NOON This New Year’s Day, a hearty, enthusiastic, and cold water-fearless group of swimmers from ages 5 to 90 will celebrate their unique brand of New Year celebration at Venice Beach Breakwater in Venice, California by plunging into the brisk Pacific Ocean. This melting pot of chill-seeking individuals ranges from Master swimmers to amateur waders. There will be a Penguin King and Queen chosen from the amateur fun lovers, and a Penguin Prince and Princess who will qualify by winning the competitive race. Last year’s 80 participants enjoyed calm seas, mild temperatures, great camaraderie, renewed friendship and a cup of hot chocolate afterwards. This year’s event on January 1, 2010 promises to be the biggest collection of dedicated ‘Penguins’ ever, all celebrating 50 years of chilly New Year’s Day swims! The event begins at 12 Noon at the breakwater located at the foot of Windward Avenue. Sign ups for the swim begins at 11:00 am on January 1, 2010. A special commemorative, 1959 – 2009, 50th anniversary t-shirt will be available for purchase for $10.
